The McRae Agency Launches Public Awareness Campaign for the Association for Behavior Analysis International

San Diego (Feb. 20, 2008)The McRae Agency, a San Diego-based public relations firm, has been selected by the Association for Behavior Analysis International™ (ABAI) to spearhead an ongoing national public relations program aimed at educating the general public about field of behavior analysis and its applications in the “real world.”

Behavior analysis is the scientific study of how environmental factors influence behavior.  Behavior analysts are concerned with what causes behavior to change over time.  Many behavior analysts are involved in research, while others specialize in applying behavior change principles to business, education, and health with the goal of enhancing quality of life.

Over the last half-century, applied behavior analysis (ABA) has been used to effectively treat behavior problems associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), mental retardation, attention deficit disorder (ADD), brain injury and other disorders.  Other arenas where behavior analysis has been applied include business and industry, addiction/self-help, parenting/family life, community interventions and animal training. Behavior analysis has also been effective in developing teaching methods that foster classroom learning.  What sets behavior analysis apart from other approaches is a strong commitment to science, both evidence-based practices and basic research on which the applications are based.

The McRae Agency is working in conjunction with ABAI’s PR Task Force to pursue mainstream media exposure for the association, the field and its leading experts within a variety of specialization categories.

“Our goal is to take the exciting and important work within this scientific field and make it accessible to and understood by the general public,” said Bridget Palitz, vice president of The McRae Agency.  “We will be working to raise awareness of behavior analysis by communicating how it is being used to solve everyday problems.”
